Rate limits and quotas
Per-minute rate limits, monthly quotas, the headers that report them, and how to back off.
Rate limits#
Every response carries your current limit:

X-RateLimit-Limit | Requests allowed in the current window. |
X-RateLimit-Remaining | Requests left in the window. |
X-RateLimit-Reset | When the window resets. |
Over the limit you get 429 with error: rate_limit_exceeded, a retryAfterSeconds field and a Retry-After header. Wait that long, then retry.
Monthly quotas#
Live checks count against your plan's monthly allowance. Quota headers start with X-Quota-. Allowances reset at 00:00 UTC on the 1st of each month. Sandbox calls do not count. See pricing for each plan's allowance.
Retrying well#
- Retry 429, 500 and 503 only. Use exponential backoff with jitter, and honour
Retry-After. - Do not retry 4xx errors other than 429. They will fail again.
