Quickstart
Create a test key and run your first sandbox check with cURL, Node.js, Python, PHP, Java, C#, Go or Ruby.
This takes you from no account to a first sandbox response. You need a terminal and one of the languages below.
1. Create an account and a test key#
- Create an account and verify your email address.
- Open API keys in the developer portal and create a key. New keys are test keys and start with
tv_test_sk_. - Copy the key straight away. We show it once.
Keep the key out of your code. Put it in an environment variable:
Shell
export TRUSTVERIFY_API_KEY="tv_test_sk_..."Note
Test keys never touch real registers or lists and never cost anything against your plan's checks. They return demo data that follows the live response shapes. See Sandbox and test data.
2. Check that the key works#
curl -sS -X GET 'https://api.trustverify.co.uk/api/v1/validate-key' \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $TRUSTVERIFY_API_KEY"3. Run a sandbox business check#
Company number 00000000 always passes in the sandbox, and 99999999 always returns review.
curl -sS -X POST 'https://api.trustverify.co.uk/api/v1/kyb/verify' \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $TRUSTVERIFY_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"companyNumber": "00000000",
"jurisdiction": "GB"
}'You get a check back:
Response 200
{
"checkId": "chk_...",
"status": "passed",
"riskLevel": "low",
"jurisdiction": "GB",
"companyNumber": "00000000",

"completedAt": "2026-10-25T10:00:00.000Z",

}4. Act on the status#
| status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
passed | The check found nothing that needs a person to look. | Let the seller continue. |
review | Something needs a person to look, for example a possible match. | Hold the seller and review the check in the dashboard. |
failed | The check did not pass. | Do not let the seller continue. Tell them what to fix if you can. |
