Selfie checks
How the selfie step works, what the response tells you today, and how to handle each result.
The seller takes a selfie, and we compare it with the photo on their ID document, so you know the face on the ID matches the person who took the selfie.
What the API returns today#
| Signal | Today |
|---|---|
signals.biometrics.faceMatch | Assessed on every identity check with a selfie. |
signals.biometrics.liveness: null | Returned as null for images sent directly to the API. |
Treat null as no result
A null signal means no result was returned for that field, so never read it as a pass. If your risk policy requires more than a face match, hold those sellers in review or add a step of your own.
Coming soon
Liveness results for API integrations are coming soon, and so is deepfake detection.
Getting good selfies#
- Ask for a front-facing photo in good light, with the whole face in the frame.
- No hats, sunglasses or filters.
- Take a fresh photo in your app rather than accepting an upload from the camera roll.
